Connected with the Juniors today!!

I connected with the Juniors today, if only for a few minutes, and I introduced 2 ideas to them.

Idea one:  We are going to find a time to meet at the Teller campus and check in on a Senior Commons.  A place to call their own.  A place to be social, a place to just hang out!

“To be a human being is directed toward one’s fellowmen. . . . What is being said in this verse (Gen. 1:27) is that the human person is not an isolated being who is complete in himself or herself, but that he or she is a being who needs the fellowship of others, who is not complete apart from others” (76) -- Anthony Hoekema

Idea two:  Senior Leadership Retreat.  I would like to take our class of 2015 into the mountains for 4 days (3 nights) and really focus on them as leaders.  I've got some brainstorming ideas rolling already.  I'll be sharing them with the public soon because I would love your input.  Here are some brief opening thoughts.

  • Mission for the retreat [DRAFT]
    • If we want to attempt to lead others, we need to be transformed, we need to become image bearers of God in a way we never imagined.  This must be our sole focus in life!!
      • Requires
        • Unrelenting effort
        • True joy
        • Slow life down a bit
        • Prayer!!
        • Humility
        • Servant attitude
        • Check my attitude at all times
    • Before we can lead others, we have to learn to live the life we have always wanted to lead.  Before we can do that we need to recognize… we are a broken people.
    • The first step to becoming an effective leader is to look in the mirror.

  • Goals for the retreat
    • Students learn what it takes to lead a…
      • Team
      • Club
      • Group
      • Choir/Band
      • Peer group
    • Encourage our students to be transforming leaders for Denver Christian Schools
    • Increase our Seniors ability to lead our campus
    • Create a profile of a Denver Christian Student Leader

Again, this is a brief beginning... more to come down the road.
